  19. If you never had problems with ums_fido, this isn't for you.               
  20.  
  21. This software tries to fix some data in a fido packet that often cause
  22. ums_fido to stop importing, resulting in a loss of messages. This is
  23. specific to ums_fido, as other tosser seems to be more "tolerant".
  24.  
  25. The main problem I'm aware of concerns the date format of messages
  26. created by the DLG BBS software.
  27. Example :
  28.          DLG    : Tue  6 Feb 96  1:04
  29.          Normal : 06 Feb 96  01:04:00

  31. UMS_FidoFix simply changes one format to the other, directly in the
  32. message packet.
  33.  
  34. Other formats are not supported yet (are there any other ?)

  42. Simply copy Fidofix somewhere in your path.

  46. Usage
  47. -----

  49. Fidofix <packetfile>
  50. Where <packetfile> is a fido packet received directly from your boss
  51. as ".pkt" files or bundled into a compressed archive as ".mo0" files.
  52.  
  53. You can use the included "uff" script to automatically extract the
  54. packets from the archive, fidofix them, and delete the original
  55. archive.
  56. This script asks two arguments, both must end with a ":" or a "/" :
  57.  - the inbound directory, where to find the original packet or archive
  58.  - the packet directory, where to extract the packets. This must be
  59.    on your hard disk (for obvious security reasons) and should be the
  60.    place where fidoimport usually stores its temporary files.

  62. As this can be a dangerous operation, you should always keep a backup
  63. of your original bundles, just in case... ;)

  65. Once the packets are fixed, import them normally with fidoimport.
